Sledding with your Alaskan Malamute
Throughout the year there are various sledding events, both run by NAMC and other sledding clubs in your region. Contact us or the New Zealand Federation of Sled Dog Sports to find out about these events.

Additionally club members run Training events throughout the winter racing season, which we welcome you to join in with. For the current training sessions please go to the Calendar of Events page.

BECOMING A MUSHER
You may be wanting to become involved in sledding/racing your Malamute as a casual musher. Or you may be more interested in the competitive side!

Either way, there are a number of options available to you;

Club Musher – as a regular member of the club you can work towards club trophies and awards. See the Working Awards and the Combined Working & Showing Awards page for more information (link below).

NZFSS Registered Musher – as a member of the club you can also become a musher recognised by the New Zealand Federation of Sled Dog Sports. You can then attain points and Sled Dog titles.

To become a NZFSS registered musher you need to pass the criteria to show that you are competent (and safe) to race. This involves an observation by a NAMC official and a comprehensive theory questionnaire completed by you. To help you prepare for the theory questionnaire and so that you understand the rules when racing, please read the rules located on the NZFSS website. See the link below.

Once you have successfully completed the observation and questionnaire your completed NZFSS new musher application form will be forwarded to the Federation. You will then be registered to receive points when competing in sanctioned race events.

To remain a NZFSS registered Musher you will need to pay an NZFSS membership fee to NAMC at the end of each working season. (NAMC pays these fees collectively to NZFSS).
